Character Sheet Contents and Layout

Full body Concept

The main focus of the character sheet is the full body concept of the character.

This should take most of the space and have as much detail in it as possible, without making it as detailed as a full art piece. This, alongside the other pieces on the character sheet, is what 3D modellers and animators will use as a reference point for their work.

Pose

By drawing a small piece that focuses on the upper body you can show the personality of the character.

Here the focus is on Aluce's upper body and her pose with her arms on her hips in her attire with her hairstyle gives off a tomboyish personality.

Details/Accessories

Some parts of a characters outfit can be really detailed and also have animation when a character moves so they need to be shown sepearte to see the details of the pieces.

Writing can be used to describe certain parts of the character sheet and arrowns can be used to show where things are coming from on the main concept.

When drawing a piece, like the shoulder pad on the left here, you may need to show multiple angles of it for the detail and also do a rough sketch of that part of the body to show where it is on them and how it attaches.

Weapons/Tools

Characters with weapons will have their weapon appear on their character sheet too.

These examples show how weapons can have different forms and how they're also shown on the character sheet, with arrows and text showing the change between them.

Back/Side Views

Modellers and animators would also need to have a reference for the back of a character and also of when parts of the characters clothes are take off.

Having a side view and back view on the character sheet or on a separate character sheet is helpful.

Outfit Variation and Close Ups

A focus on the character without pieces of their outfit on and also a fous on certain parts of the character should be added on a character sheet, adding more detail to the character and concept.

Head and Expressions

A focus on the head of the character allows you to show different emotions and add more detail to the head.

Slime Form

Using this reference from the character sheet for Reincarnated as a slime i can see how the slime form would be shown on the character sheet.

I should show a still concept of the slime form and possibly 1 or 2 more concepts of different emotions or movements.

Doodles

Sometimes artitsts will add little doodles to a character sheet to help them show the characters personality and movements and even interactions with other characters in their character sheet.

These aren't needed, but they help to add character.

Movement Sketch

A simple sketch like this of a part on a character with an arrow alongside it helps to indicate movement.

I can use this in my character sheet to indicate movement in the characters clothes, body and their slime form.
